Bellissimamma features businesses owned by mamas. I love supporting mompreneurs by featuring them on my blog. During my recent trip to the Philippines, I purchased a beautiful handmade crochet shawl by Quochet:
Din Clemente is the owner and creator of Quochet (Quote + Crochet). It was an absolute pleasure interviewing Din about her work. She is a wonderful mother and a professional teacher with a great love for crochet.
How did you discover your passion for crochet?
I actually learned to crochet from HELE (Home Economics and Livelihood Education) class back in Grade School (Grade 5 or 6 I think?). We were taught the basic stitches and our main project was to add a “handle” to a dishtowel so you could hang it on the ref.
About two years ago, I decided I needed to find a hobby, something to keep my mind busy when I was having anxiety attacks. I started re-learning the stitches, getting new hooks and yarn and learning how to read patterns. I first tried making a bear, but he turned out to be a “Franken-bear,” so I tried again this time with a giraffe. He turned out fine – his name is Geoffrey. After that I tried making a shawl, the first one I worked on while I was going through some rough spots with my ldr bf. HAHA. Then I made another one, which a high school friend bought from me. She was my first customer! Everything else just fell into place after that.
Why did you start Quochet?
I read a post from a crochet group I was in. It was about “prayer shawls,” where the person making the shawl offers up good intentions and prayers for the recipient of the shawl. Around the same time, my daughter was working on her brush lettering skills. That got me thinking, what if instead of a prayer (since we know that people have different beliefs), she makes a card with a quote to send out to those who will order from us. She loved the idea (mostly because she gets a share for each sale HAHA). That’s how we came up with Quochet, Quote + Crochet.
What kinds of products do you create?
We make shawls, coasters, placemats, cord organizers and sometimes even simple stuffed toys. We also make handwritten post cards or greeting cards.
How can we support your business?
If you can buy our products for yourself or as a gift for loved ones, then that’s great! If not, that’s fine as well. You can simply like and follow our page, react to our posts, and/or share or tag friends in our posts.
