A Dinner Date (With the Kids): Bar La Favorita Siena

16 febbraio 2018

A Dinner Date at Bar La Favorita Siena

Last night, my whole family (hubby, Leon, and Lucas) went on a post-Valentine’s dinner date at Bar La Favorita Siena. This was a big deal for us because it is NOT EASY to go to a fancy date place when you have two kids under the age of three. We almost did not get to go because hubby was so tired from work and Leon was being moody as usual- but I persisted because I know that we needed this.

We made the right decision to go. First of all, Leon slept in his stroller the whole time we were there. Lucas was just happy to eat his bread and tomatoes. The staff of Bar La Favorita Siena, Italy was so accommodating- the server immediately offered an alta seda (high chair) and arranged our table to fit the passegino (stroller). I was surprised that everything was going so well. Normally, Leon would be throwing a fit and Lucas would be crying, but tonight was different.  My husband and I were like, “Oh my gosh, this is a very special moment. Let’s make the most out of it.”

So we spent the next hour and a half enjoying our food and actually talking to one another. It was a great night and we were so happy and satisfied after our date.

The Food (Buon Appetito)

Pappa Al Pomodoro
Pizza Cipolla e Salsiccia
Cacio e Pepe Pasta

Steak

The food was delicious! I am telling you, food in Italy is just 100 times better. The food pictures do not do justice. Also, as you can tell, I had a bit of wine. Just a little bit since I am breastfeeding.

By the way, we also celebrated Lucas’s 9th month! He is already eating solid food and he loved the Pappa al Pomodoro! I’d better learn how to make this at home.

Thank you for reading my post! I would love to hear how you spent your Valentine’s day with your family! If you have tips on how to go out with little ones, please share them in the comments.

Gerry’s Grill Christening/ Baptism Day Package (Review)

The Importance of Christening/ Dedication Day

For many Christians, a child’s Christening/ Dedication Day is one of the most celebrated affairs by the family. It is the day when family, godparents, and friends gather to witness the baby being dedicated unto the Lord. My son Lucas had his Dedication Day Reception at Gerry’s Grill in Newport City.

Dedication Day Reception at Gerry’s Grill Newport

First, my husband and I had to choose a reception venue. We thought of having our venue at home and hire a caterer. However, that would be tedious because then we would have to clean up after our guests. For this reason, we decided to hold the venue at a restaurant. In this way, we do not have to deal with the after-party mess.

So after checking out restaurants nearby and online, we finally decided on Gerry’s Grill Newport as our venue. Why? I was impressed with their “worry-free all-in package”. Since we wanted a simple and intimate celebration, we only invited a few people. A few close and friends and relatives came to our event. In the Philippines, a “few” may translate to as many as fifty guests.

Gerry’s Grill Menu Packages

My husband and I dropped by Gerry’s Grill Newport a month before the expected date of the dedication so that we can choose a menu package for our function. Gerry’s Grill is known for its sizzling plates and Filipino dishes. We chose their MENU C package, which costs Php 470 per person for a minimum of 50 pax.

MENU C:

Lumpiang Shanghai
Fried Chicken and Fries
Beef Kare-Kare
Pork Sisig
Palabok
Plain Rice

Inclusive of
Bottomless Iced Tea
Leche Flan

Lucas’s Dedication Day

Guests arrived as early as 2:30 P.M. and the restaurant readily accommodated them. At 3:00, the waiters already served them with iced tea and water. Our program started at 4:00, and dinner was served right after. The guests were satisfied with the food. It was served hot and everything was delicious. The waiters were prompt in servicing the needs of our guests.

Their function package included 20 balloons, a catering setup, trained servers, and a banner. I like the way they decorated the place. It was simple but well-organized.

Our event lasted for 3 hours, from 3 to 6 P.M. Since we rented their speaker and microphones, they charged us an additional Php500 for the electricity charge. The restaurant played children’s nursery rhymes as the background music. However, the manager offered to give us back the Php500 because their microphones were not working properly. I just told him to use it as a group tip for the servers.

Final Thoughts

Overall, our families and friends had a great time. I recommend Gerry’s Grill Newport to parents looking for a place to hold their child’s Christening/ Dedication Day reception.
