Protect your home while you’re gone

It may seem like you only need to worry about what’s going on around you when you travel. Well, that’s not entirely true; you still have to keep tabs on your home even when you’re away. Have someone you know and trust check up on your home every couple of days while you’re gone. Home security is also an important resource to use when you travel. SimpliSafe can help give you peace of mind by protecting your home so that you don’t have to worry about intruders during your vacation. You can enjoy your trip without constantly thinking about how your home is doing when you can’t be there.

Do your research

Before you leave for your trip, do your research so you can be fully prepared. Is it your first time traveling to a new place? Make sure to read up on the laws where you’re going and about the culture and environment of the place. You would not want any surprises. You’ll want to know exactly what you can expect at the hotel or Airbnb you’re staying at. Knowing everything you can about where you’re staying will increase the safety component for you and your kids.

Have a travel buddy

If there are a lot of family members traveling together, it can be very easy for someone to get left behind throughout the process. You don’t want anyone to get lost in the shuffle, so it’s important to establish a travel buddy for everyone so that there’s no confusion. Each person’s designated buddy will go everywhere with them, whether it’s to the bathroom or to grab something to eat. That way there’s no chance of one of your children getting into any danger when you can’t all be together.

Get travel insurance

Depending on the type of trip you and your family are going on, travel insurance is something you’ll want to consider. If you or a family member gets injured or sick during your trip activities, the costs to cover those issues will be covered, depending on your plan. Travel insurance can help ease your mind, especially if you’ve already put a lot of time and money into your trip. You don’t want to be in a bind if something unfortunate were to happen while away on vacation. Travel insurance can provide a great sense of security for you and your family.

Make an emergency plan

Is this your kids’ first time traveling somewhere? You want to establish a plan for each scenario so that there’s no reason for panic. Give them a step by step list of what they can do if they do get lost or encounter danger. Establish a location to meet up whenever they can’t find you. Also, make them aware of the conflicts they are sure to encounter in the area you’re traveling. A scary situation becomes ten times scarier when you’re not prepared, so talking to your child before you leave about how to navigate travel is crucial.

  1. These are all great tips! We basically make sure when we travel that no one goes off by themselves, we keep an eye on each other (and our valuables!), and we keep valuables like passports and most of our money in the hotel safe!
