The Excellent Wife of Proverbs 31

I believe that every married woman wants to be an excellent wife. I am writing this post for wives who submit to the authority of Christ in their lives.

My husband and I have been through a lot of ups and downs through our marriage. I thank God that despite the challenges we have faced as a couple, we are still together and very much in love.I admit that as a wife and mother, I have many shortcomings. In spite of my imperfections, my husband and kids never fail to show me their love.

Whenever I draw near to God, He shows me the right path. Like a good Father, He gently corrects me and shows me the areas in my life that need to be changed. For my morning devotion,  I read The Hymn To The Good Wife. Reading Proverbs 31 (MSG) has inspired me to strive for excellence in my marriage.

1. Treat your husband with love and respect.

Treat your husband generously and don’t be spiteful. Be gracious, compassionate, tender-hearted, kind, and loving. Most husbands who are treated with love and respect will reciprocate by being affectionate, appreciative, and loving.

2. Shop for things that have the best quality.

Do some research before buying things for your family. Choose the best products that fit your family’s budget. Know when to scrimp and when to splurge.

Wake up early, prepare breakfast for your family, and organize your day. Set the mood by being eager to work and ready to slay the day.

4. Invest wisely and save your money.

Make a budget, stick to it, and invest in things that will produce more wealth.

5. Stay organized.

Keeps your home beautiful, healthy, and safe. Know the worth of her work as a homemaker. Delegate tasks and chores to the members of the household. Do you like using planners? I personally love the Erin Condren journals and planners:

6. Be skilled in your craft and profession.

Use your talent and skills and take them to the next level. Keep learning and honing your craft.

7. Prepare for your family’s needs ahead of time.

Always plan for the future and make sure your family’s basic needs are met. Also, do your research when planning a trip and do not do things at the last-minute.

8. Keep an eye on everyone in your household, and keep them all busy and productive.

Manage your home well. Keep your children busy with activities that will help them learn and be productive. If you have household help, make sure that they know your expectations and their tasks. If you are like me who work at home alone, keep a daily schedule and set a routine for your children.

9. Be quick to help anyone in need.

Always be ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who needs help. If your husband needs your help with some important business, be available for him. If your children need help with school work, be there for them.

10. Dress well and take care of your body.

Make yourself a priority. You need to love yourself and take care of your personal appearance. Your personal hygiene is very important. Have fun with fashion. Take care of your skin and wear a little makeup! Most of all, be your own kind of beautiful!

11. Have a positive attitude and face the future with a smile.

You have the power to set the tone at home. Be the light of your home by fostering an environment where everyone is accepted and loved. There should be a balance between fun and discipline. Be gracious, loving, fun, and respectful.

12. Speak kindly.

Encourage your husband and your children. Always be gracious. Talk about things that are worthwhile and avoid malicious talk.

13. Live for God, and you will live a blessed life.

Strive for excellence, not perfection. Take hold of God’s promises for your family.

A Prayer For Wives:

Lord Jesus, thank you for helping us to become excellent wives for your glory. Please give us the wisdom and the strength to best serve our families. Help us to seek You first in all things. May we grow in the knowledge and fear of You. Grant us your blessing, favor, protection, and provision. AMEN.
