Success Tips For Business Moms:

Look back at your earliest positive achievements from your childhood.

“The key to your unique success blueprint can be found in your earliest positive achievements.” How do you do that? By taking an inventory of your childhood successes. You can ask your family and friends what they remember about you and you will be surprised at what you will discover. When I was in second grade, I lent out books to my classmates for one peso a day. I had an entrepreneurial mindset even back then!

Trust that God is leading you where He wants you to be.

“Every struggle in our lives can take us closer to our God-given destiny.” Do you feel like you have wasted time or have had to start over in a particular area? Don’t worry because you have to trust that you are right where God wants you to be. I used to major in Biology before shifting to a different course. Shifting to early childhood education meant that I graduated a year late. But you know what? If I had not started out as a pre-med student, I would not have met my future husband! Things work out for a reason.

Whatever comes naturally to you is a clue to your calling.

Can you identify those times when you “just did something” others might consider difficult? For me, I find it easy to connect with people. I also like to share what I know by writing about it. What about you? What is your natural talent? Do you think you can monetize that talent?

Take time to assess whether you have a business or a hobby.

“You should check if people are willing to buy your product or to invest in your business.” Also, assess yourself if you really want your talent to be a business, or if you are okay with making it a hobby. When I decided to monetize my blog after spending a bit of time doing it as a hobby, it was because I learned that blogging can be a business.

You may have to pivot from your original idea, and that’s okay.

“Sometimes you may have to pivot from your original idea.” Look, if people are not buying your product, then you might need to change your original plan…and that is OKAY! I am still in the process of testing out my ideas. What about you? Have you experienced switching to Plan B when your original idea did not work out?

Learn to delegate tasks to the right people.

“Put the right people around you. Delegate and make things happen. Be relentless, too, and do not give up.” You may be a superwoman, but you cannot do everything! Curate your dream team, and don’t be afraid to assign tasks to people whom you trust. (This is something that I still have to work on since I tend to do everything by myself!)

Work smart, not hard.

“Balancing a family and a baby requires planning. Hire people to help you. Ask for help from family and friends.” I know the “mom-guilt” you might feel when you ask other people to help you take care of your own kids. But do not worry, you will have to hire a babysitter sometimes or maybe ask a relative to help you watch your kids while you work on your business. There is nothing wrong with that! Now, I must admit that again, this is not easy for me to do given my circumstances (I live away from my extended family since my husband and the kids moved to Italy). I am so blessed because my husband has been super supportive. At night when I get to work on my blog (after nursing Lucas), he reads Leon a bedtime story and puts him to sleep.

Now, 10 Questions for Bellissimamma…

What do you love about blogging?

I love blogging because I have always wanted to create something that I can call my own. I really enjoy writing about my family’s adventures in Italy. When I blog about topics that I really like (lifestyle, literacy, and little kids), I feel energized and inspired!

What do you hate about blogging?

Sometimes I compare my blogs to other well-known blogs and feel slightly discouraged because I know that I still have a lot to learn and improve on. However, being nominated for a prestigious award such as The Sunshine Award really gives me the boost that I need to keep on going!

What is your favourite book to read?

Right now, I am enjoying reading the Harry Potter Book Collection. It’s funny that I am only reading this now at 33 years old! I have seen all the movies but reading Harry Potter is a completely different (and more exciting) experience!

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I see myself traveling to many different places around the world with my husband and two boys! I am also excited to be super involved in my kids’ school activities (e.g. PTA Mom) as well as my boys’ after-school sports ( e.g. Soccer Mom). Also, I am still blogging and enjoying what I do.

What is the ultimate goal of your blog?

I envision Bellissimamma to be an online resource for expat living in Italy, beauty and lifestyle tips for mammas, and multilingual/ literacy education. I also want to feature more inspirational Filipinas.

If you could be a superhero, what power would you have and why?

I would love to have the ability to turn back time to relive memories and to redo past mistakes.

What do you do to relax?

Face masks! Warm showers! Coffee break!

What is your favourite TV series?

Right now, my favorite TV series is This Is Us. The characters are so relatable and each episode gives me “the feels”. Jack (the dad) for me is the perfectly imperfect husband and father. I also admire Randall’s character and the way he raises his kids with his gorgeous wife Beth.

What brings you joy?

It brings me so much joy to see my children Leon and Lucas grow each day. I love my two little boys so much! They are my source of pride and happiness.

A Woman Who ‘Breaks Glass Ceilings’

Happy International Women’s Day!

First of all, thank you #DolceVitaBloggers hosts Kelly (ItalianAtHeart), Jasmine (QuestaDolceVita) and Kristie (MammaPrada). This month’s #DolceVitaBloggers topic is “Inspirational Women”, in honor of International Women’s Day!

 Rina Benedictos

Inspirational Women

Rina Benedictos lives in Australia with her husband and daughter. She is a dramatic soprano, character actor, host and TV presenter.  Moreover, she has spent the last ten years as a facilitator, mentor, and coach. She is also the creator of the “The Cinderella Challenge”. The challenge is to recognize women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements.

Rina’s Story

U.N. Women

Rina worked as a teacher at the University of the Philippines. She earned a Masters Degree in Educational Psychology. Later on, she became involved in programs on social and economic empowerment. These programs helped women break the cycle of harassment and violence.

Shining Light on Shadows

“2018 marks my 20th year as a Philippine-born educator. I was committed to shining light on shadows. In my home country, the biggest shadow is poverty. Teachers were bearers of the key to knowledge and education. Education is the solution to poverty.”

Shakti Gawain

Breaking Through Glass Ceilings

“Also, I grew up in a patriarchal Filipino society. Gender stereotypes prevailed. Gender role divisions reigned. Furthermore, there were gender inequalities. Gender inequality exists in education, employment, and entrepreneurship. Gender-based harassment and violence were evil shadows. We cast light on these shadows. We ‘broke the glass ceiling’ through education, prevention, and elimination.”

Breaking Through The ‘Bamboo Ceiling’

“2018 marks the milestone for me as an Australian. I am a migrant woman of Asian background. This time, I need to ‘break through the bamboo ceiling’. I face the three-dimensional issues of sexism, classism, and racism. They are a barrier to my social and economic goals.

Multicultural women are underrepresented in leadership positions. They are migrant women from Asian and other non-European backgrounds. Migrant women are at a double disadvantage. This is compared to migrant men and native-born women.

Leadership in Australia is gender-based. Australia is limited without diverse leaders. As a result, we are not making the most out of our multiculturalism. We need to harness the rich and diverse talent in our society. If we do this, then we are not missing out.

I am passionate about developing multicultural women. I do this by honing their leadership skills. Moreover, I encourage cultural change. Most of all, we want to have organisational and management practices that value diversity.”

Do you want to join the Cinderella Challenge?

It is not about fitting into glass slippers. It is about breaking the glass ceiling.

Cinderella, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Post a photo on your most recent achievement on Instagram or Facebook.
  2. Tell us how you made a difference in people’s lives.
  3. Add #cinderellachallenge at the end of your post.
  4. Tag your favorite female achievers!Let us flood our social media with colorful stories of strong and resilient women!

Bellissimamma Does The Cinderella Challenge

Do you want to develop your skills as a leader? Are you a multicultural woman who wants to break cultural barriers? Rina will be going to Siena, Italy in November 2018, so stay tuned for updates.
